10 hours a week: fall, winter, and spring quarters
Hybrid: remote work with 6-8 in-person meetings during the academic year

Compensation: $25.00 an hour

The Opportunity
The Islamic Studies Program and the Fowler Museum has an opening for a curatorial assistant
to work on the exhibition project “Visual and Sonic Landscapes of Muslim LA.” Reporting to the
Director of Education and Interpretation at the Fowler Museum, this individual is responsible
for conducting research on the creative Muslim histories of Los Angeles. The curatorial assistant
will organize this research to be used in an upcoming exhibition at the Fowler Museum and will
be responsible for organizing meetings with curators, academics, artists and filmmakers who
are part of the Curatorial Collective.
The core functions of this job are research and administrative support, which require working
on and off-site. The onsite engagements will be up to 8 meetings or workshops during the
academic year.

Job Responsibilities:
• Documentation and organization of research on Muslim communities of Los Angeles,
with special attention to the histories of music, film, visual arts, animation and
architecture, past and present.
• Prepares reports on the research
• Presents research in public forums
• Organizes meetings and 6 workshops for the Curatorial Collective

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree; Master’s preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proven ability to collaborate in teams across disciplines and build relationships
2-3 years research experience
Fluency in using Excel, Doodle, and Google Suite
Proficient in time management
